Considering Dental Treatment Abroad?
Here’s what you should know
Undergoing dental surgery abroad can feel like a daunting prospect — and understandably so. Whether it’s a minor procedure or a full restoration, traveling to another country for treatment involves careful planning and informed decision-making.
At Dental Surgery Abroad (DSA), we believe that patients have a responsibility to conduct thorough research before selecting an overseas dental provider. While recommendations from friends or stories shared online may be helpful, they should never be the sole basis for your decision. Your dental health is too important — it deserves well-informed, thoughtful choices.
That’s why, at DSA, we only refer clients to overseas dental providers that have been formally accredited by UKODA (the United Kingdom Overseas Dental Accreditation Board). This ensures every clinic we work with has been independently inspected and approved to meet standards equivalent to those expected within the UK.

In collaboration with UKODA and official tourism bodies in each respective country, these accredited clinics have demonstrated that they meet or exceed international standards of care for visiting patients. Once you begin your journey with us, we will provide you with a full list of these approved dental providers.

Why Accreditation Matters
There has been a great deal of concern in the UK media about the safety of having surgery abroad — and rightly so. But in many cases, the rising cost of treatment at home has left patients with no choice but to look overseas.
At DSA, we understand these challenges and are committed to helping you eliminate uncertainty through a structured, transparent, and accredited referral process.

Spotlight on Turkey
Turkey has become a leading destination for dental tourism, with cities like Antalya, Izmir, and Istanbul offering world-class care. In the last 20 months alone, nearly 200,000 UK residents travelled to Turkey for dental treatment — and the numbers are rising.
The primary driver? Cost savings. Patients can save up to 70% compared to UK dental prices. However, despite the affordability, the topic is often met with scepticism or humour. Common concerns include:
- “Why does the cost increase once I’m in the dentist’s chair?”
- “What happens if I experience complications once I’m back in the UK?”
- “Will I have to pay for flights and accommodation if I need remedial care?”
- “Is it true that the NHS won’t treat me if I’ve had dental work abroad?”
These are valid questions and at DSA, we’re proud to say we have the answer
